Former Public Security Minister Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera yesterday (10) said that the SLPP had asked the NPP government to explain why its main constituent, JVP, had accommodated Mohamed Yusuf Ibrahim, father of two of the Easter Sunday suicide bombers, on its National List in the 2015 parliamentary elections.

- BY SHAMINDRA FERDINANDO

Had that too been part of the conspiracy perpetrated by the Rajapaksas? Weerasekera asked, adding that the NPP appeared to have conveniently forgotten that the Ibrahim family was in such extremist mindset, the internationally known spice trader’s pregnant daughter-in-law exploded herself killing her two children at their Dematagoda residence.

Ibrahim who had been arrested within hours after the attacks on April 21, 2019 and charged under the Prevention of terrorism Act (PTA) was granted bail on May 25, 2022 during Gotabaya Rajapaksa's presidency.
