Indian Army kills two terrorists in encounter in Kashmir, a day after Pahalgam attack

The operation comes a day after the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 holidaying tourists were killed and 20 others injured.

The Indian Army said the encounter broke out on Wednesday with approximately two-three terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the general area of Sarjeevan at Baramulla's Uri Nala.

Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said in a post on X, “Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation in Baramulla.”

Large quantities of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists. Operation is in progress, the X post read.

The dastardly act took place at the Baisaran meadow, which is also popularly called ‘mini Switzerland.’

The Resistance Front (TRF)—a shadow outfit linked to the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to officials cited in a PTI report, it is suspected that the attackers may have infiltrated from Kishtwar, in Jammu, and made their way to Baisaran, via Kokernag in South Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his two-day state visit to Saudi Arabia, and rushed back here on Wednesday morning, following the terrorist attack.

Modi held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval as soon as he landed in Delhi on Wednesday.
