I was glad to read and greet the author of the survey report published on September 1, 2025. This report highlights a standard Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that credible universities worldwide monitor annually, particularly in top institutions where demand for admission is exceptionally high.

The significant variation in employability between Sri Lankan universities, as highlighted in the report, is a stark reminder to the government to identify who or what is responsible. The most significant share of blame should fall on the University Grants Commission (UGC), which has ignored such statistics for years, despite repeated proposals from its own quality assurance groups.Since the UGC has failed to uphold its responsibility to maintain quality academic programmes, state universities in the country remain less accountable for not updating their curricula to meet national needs and international standards. In fact, curriculum revision or development is a laborious process, requiring multiple layers of approval that often take years rather than months to complete.
