The brother of Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape yesterday. Paul Gallagher, 59, also pleaded not guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The alleged offences took place between 2022 and 2024, according to a charge sheet. Mr Gallagher, of East Finchley in north London, entered his pleas at Harrow Crown Court – which is sitting at Southwark Crown Court. Mr Gallagher will face trial on 13 September 2027.

He is a year older than Noel and six years older than Liam. While he has never been involved with Oasis, he was dropped from performing a DJ set at the Grand Social for an afterparty to coincide with the Dublin performances of the band's reunion tour.

McDonnell and Begum have Labour whip restored

John McDonnell and Apsana Begum have had the Labour whip reinstated ahead of the party's annual conference in Liverpool this weekend. The pair had the whip suspended in July last year after they voted against the government on the King's speech, along with five of their colleagues.

The group backed an SNP motion calling for an end to the two-child benefit cap, though four of the rebels - Ian Byrne, Richard Burgon, Imran Hussein and Rebecca Long-Bailey - had the whip reinstated six months later. Following the decision, Ms Begum said she would “continue to expose the two-child limit at every opportunity”.

The seventh rebel, Zarah Sultana, subsequently resigned her membership to co-found a new left-wing party with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

'I don't necessarily need sex – just emotional proximity'

If you had shown me a snapshot of our relationship now, back when we first met, I would not have imagined in a million years that this is how we would be living. But I am trying not to regret anything. We have two lovely children and they are happy, and that is worth a lot. I try to concentrate on how rewarding and enriching my relationship with them is - rather than on my marriage.
