CALDERDALE LEADER CALLS FOR RESIDENTS TO REJECT RACISM

A COUNCIL leader has called on Calderdale residents to show kindness and reject racism following an incident in which a woman and her family were abused in a Calderdale park.

Clr Jane Scullion said political events nationally highlighted tensions in some communities "and made some people in Calderdale feel a little less safe".

Locally, racist abuse of an NHS worker in Manor Heath Park, Halifax, in the summer had seen Calderdale make headlines for all the wrong reasons, she said.

In a video seen online, a man was seen throwing water at the woman and appears to ask her if she arrived in the UK by crossing the English Channel in a boat.
