Tip closures staggered for easy access

COUNCILLORS FEAR RESIDENTS WILL BE CONFUSED ABOUT OPENING TIMES

STAGGERED closures for Calderdale’s waste and recycling centres come in this autumn, and senior councillors have given more details about how this will work amid fears about the effect.

Amid budget savings, senior Calderdale councillors previously agreed to close sites two days a week to help their council balance its books.

At a meeting of the full Calderdale Council, councillors were asked when the policy was coming in and what arrangements were made.

In a public question time section Darren Commons said the council's Cabinet had said the closures would start from this autumn, with full effect in the next council year, 2026-27.

"Has this policy now been implemented and, if so, can the Cabinet member confirm whether closure days have been aligned across the borough or staggered between sites, for example, one site shut Mondays and another Tuesdays?
