WE TRY OUT WELLNESS CENTRE IN NEWLY REFURBISHED UNIT WITH ITS ICE BATHS AND SAUNA

The perfect place to wind down

HICE HQ on Halifax Road in Brighouse. Above the team behind the wellness centre

MANY people think my idea of fun is complete madness.

Train hard all week with weights and weight-based cardio workouts - often at 4 or 5am - and then recover on a Saturday morning with a dip in a reservoir or five to ten minutes in an ice bath. So I was intrigued to be invited to try out the new-ish HICE HQ in Brighouse.

The wellness centre, which is in a newly refurbished unit at Kershaw’s Garden Centre on Halifax Road in Brighouse, was launched around 12 months ago by four rugby league players - Curtis Davies (London Broncos/ Wales), Connor Davies (Halifax Panthers/Wales), Joe Keyes (Bradford Bulls/Ireland) and Zack McComb (Halifax Panthers/Ireland).

It offers ice baths, sauna, hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as being a place for a good local coffee and is the perfect place to wind down.

For me it was just what I needed to repair the damage of heavy squats as well as a challenging week of work and family life. Myself and my gym partner arrived just before 6pm on a Friday evening and, after battling Storm Amy conditions on the M62, I needed to wind down more than ever.
