Tinside beach huts waiting list '422 years long'

ARE you on the waiting list for a beach hut at Tinside Lido? Then you better pop the kettle on, as a recent Freedom of Information request has revealed that you may be waiting for 422 years - if the current rate of change remains.

The FOI request - which was submitted by the local Liberal Democrats - revealed that just 10 people on the waiting list received a beach hut over the past eight years.

If this rate continues, the 528 Plymouth residents on the waiting list for one of the 21 huts will be waiting for over four centuries.

Plymouth City Council have two sets of beach huts along the foreshore. There are 21 beach huts at Tinside on The Hoe, and five beach huts at Eastern Kings, near to Devil's Point. Plymouth City Council are not currently taking any new applications.

Chair of Plymouth Liberal Democrats Stuart Bonar has expressed disappointment that there are currently no plans to build more beach huts and meet demand. He explained:
