HERALD REPORTERS
Snow, wind, hail, storms and rain arrive for Easter

Snow flurries fell across higher ground on Wednesday night, with many residents posting pictures of a carpet of white on roads, rooftops and in gardens.

Other residents reported heavy sleet and hail showers that led to dangerous conditions on roads.

The low pressure front which had delivered snow to higher ground was replaced by thunderstorms and hail yesterday and even the odd burst of sunshine as the British weather lived up to its 'four seasons in one day' reputation.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds was in place for today, and there were concerns it could cause further chaos on roads which are expected to be busy with traffic as many embark on Easter holiday getaways.

Gusts of up to 70mph could hit the south coast of England, from Cornwall to East Sussex.

But there was delight on Wednesday night as snow settled across large parts of Plymouth, as well as in Ivybridge and more thickly on Dartmoor.

Photographer Mark Shackleton - a regular contributor to The Herald took photos early yesterday morning showing between four and six inches of snow at Bellever Forest on Dartmoor.
