Plant being built in city to recycle EV batteries

A CLEAN technology company has started construction on the country’s first at-scale electric vehicle battery recycling facility with integrated chemical refining capabilities - in Plymouth.

Altilium Clean Technology are building a scale-up plant that they say will place the UK at the forefront of sustainable battery materials production.

The state-of-the art facility will have capacity to recover critical battery minerals, including lithium, nickel and graphite, from 24,000 EVs per year.

Using Altilium’s own EcoCathode process, battery scrap will be recycled into nickel mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) and lithium sulphate - vital intermediate materials for domestic production of battery cathodes.
