New sports centre is open for all
March 17, 2025
|The Herald
PLYMOUTH'S new £5 million sports centre and community hub is ready to welcome visitors.
The former Brickfields sports centre has been transformed into The Hub, a swish and modern facility aimed at transforming the health and fitness of residents of Devonport and, indeed, the wider city.
The Hub is only the first phase of the ambitious £21m Foulston Park redevelopment of the area around Plymouth Albion's rugby stadium. The sports centre closed in September 2023 and has undergone an immense overhaul which has seen new facilities, and even an entirely new floor installed.
It will officially open its doors today, following a special open weekend when the community was invited to explore the new facilities and take part in taster sessions.
Developed and operated by Argyle Community Trust, and part of Plymouth's network of nine wellbeing hubs, The Hub at Foulston Park will offer a range of health and wellbeing opportunities, including a top-of-the-range gym, physical activity programmes, mental health support, youth and veterans' programmes and life skills training.
It has been designed as a friendly and welcoming space for all, whether people are looking to become fitter and healthier, connect with others, or simply enjoy a safe and supportive environment.
Commenting on the opening of the facility, Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, said: "The Hub at Foulston Park will be game-changing for Devonport. The soft play, café, veterans support and the sports facilities mean there is something for everyone in Devonport. I couldn't be prouder of the team who have put this together."
The facilities at The Hub include a new gym with state-of-the-art fitness equipment with 60 stations, a training zone, a free weights area, a cardio zone, resistance equipment and private personal trainer space.
