For Evan Hansen, this is the task set for him by a therapist, and one which starts off a chain of events which not only tugs at your heartstrings but ties them into knots.

A teenager with social anxiety issues, it is a lie - albeit one told with good intentions - which propels Evan into a situation that both terrifies him but also provides a fulfilment that the truth could not.
