Impressive Pilgrims turn on the style to overcome Gwalia

Plymouth Argyle Women celebrate one of the five goals scored in their thrashing of Gwalia United

Goals from Tamara Wilcock, Tianna Teisar, Ellie Noble, and a brace from Charlotte Whitmore sealed an emphatic win for Ryan Perks' side, who showed both resilience and ruthlessness in front of goal despite a packed fixture schedule.

“We've come and we've got what we came for with the win,” said Wilcock. “I don’t think it was our best performance as a team, but we definitely got it over the line.”

Argyle began brightly, dictating the tempo and putting early pressure on the visitors. Phoebie Poole was first to test Gwalia goalkeeper Benedicte Haaland, forcing her into a smart save with a low strike after a defensive mix-up.

Gwalia looked sharp in midfield, with Beth McGowan’s free-kick curling narrowly wide and Daisy Ackerman firing a long-range effort straight at Hermione Cull. But Argyle’s movement soon began to tell, particularly in wide areas where Whitmore and Roisin Kivel combined well to stretch the Welsh team’s defence.
