NEW INSIGHTS INTO TOWN'S MONASTIC PAST
TAVISTOCK’S medieval heart is one step closer to being rediscovered, thanks to a major funding investment.
A £195,449 grant from Historic England will pay for essential repairs to Betsy Grimbal’s Tower - the great west gate of Tavistock Abbey, founded in AD 974.
Project leaders say the funding awarded through the public body’s Repair Grants for Heritage at Risk programme - marks a “major milestone” in the wider ‘Rediscovering Tavistock Abbey’ project, led jointly by Tavistock Heritage Trust and Tavistock Town Council.
