Hair salon helping the homeless set to expand

A HAIR salon established to help the city’s homeless and vulnerable is set to expand its services one year after it opened.

REV7 on Mutley Plain was created by church minister Rev'd Darren Middleton, who gave up his work running several city Methodist churches to launch the community project.

A former professional dancer who danced in the West End, and who became - after entering the church ministry - a British Army chaplain, Rev'd Darren has now retrained as a hairdresser in order to minister to the more vulnerable of his flock on a one-to-one basis... in a salon chair.

“We believe that everyone deserves to look and feel their best, regardless of their situation,’ he said at the official opening of the salon last October, officated by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Richard Stevens, MBE.
