Four-some Stephenson lands Super League title
January 14, 2026
|The Herald
SIMON Stevenson came through a field of 34 competitors to take his fourth Plymouth City Super League Players Championship crown at a packed Legends Lounge.
Dan Hurley hit 14 scores of a ton or more in the Monday Premier League
Stevenson dropped one leg on his way to the semifinal stage with wins over Paul Goundry by a 3-0 scoreline, 3-1 against Simon Washington and 3-0 over George Beckett, who also made the last eight stage.
The man he faced in the last four was Mick Bingham, who opened his night with a 3-1 win against David Young before dispatching Nick Bryant 3-2. Ben Welsh was Bingham's next victim before Stevenson rattled off 15 ton-plusses in the narrowest of 3-2 successes to reach the final.
In the other section of the draw, Neil White navigated his way through his opening game with a 3-0 triumph against Callum Fradley before Koby Dixon was seen off with a 3-1 win.
Archie Borlase made it to the quarterfinals before bowing out to White 3-0, which left Mark Shears between White and a date with the only man keeping him from the top of the Players Championship league standings.
Shears opened his account with a 3-1 win over Ian Heggie before turning over Dave Carroll and Frankie Stout 3-0; the latter of which had knocked out 2019/20 champion, Glenn Halford, in the Round of 16.
Shears fired a 180 in the opening leg, but White took the spoils in that one before Shears roared back with a 98 checkout in the second, whilst taking the third to put him on the brink of victory.
White took the match to the final leg before nailing a 180 in the decider to give him a shot at a Super League individual and Players Championship combination. However, Stevenson was in no mood to let his shot at becoming a quadruple time champion slip as he ran out a 4-0 winner in the final, thanks to a 180 that topped his ton total in the match-up to the ten mark.
STEVE CHAPMAN 501 LEAGUE
JOHN Mann (37.58) put on quite a show for Cherry Tree B with legs in 14, 13, and 13 darts to win 3-0 and help his team dispatch Fawn B by a 7-4 scoreline.

Older drivers tend to be the safest on the road
REGARDING recent newspaper reports about compulsory eye tests for the over-70s, as we have to renew our licences every three years anyway, I really cannot see that this will be a problem for most people of that age.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Although I am well aware that social media is largely an echo chamber that will feed back to you what you search for, there are no shortage of videos and articles about fashionable dressing for men, while vintage clothing is no longer merely bagged up and donated to charity shops but can yield high prices on re-sale sites such as eBay and Vinted.
