YOUNG ATTACKER SPARKLES IN COMEBACK WITH FOR PILGRIMS
TOM Cleverley described as 'outstanding' the performance of 17-year-old right-sided attacker Tegan Finn in Plymouth Argyle's thrilling Carabao Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers at Home Park.
The Pilgrims' academy product played a starring role as the Pilgrims recovered from being 2-0 behind at halftime to beat a youthful Rangers side 3-2, with striker Owen Oseni on his full debut getting two of their goals.
It was Finn's second start for Argyle, after getting his first one under Wayne Rooney when Argyle lost 4-0 away to Coventry City in the Championship on Boxing Day last year, and it was an eye-catching one.
He was always ready to take on opposing players and get in dangerous crosses, and the Green Army were clearly excited by what they saw from him for the first 65 minutes of the Carabao Cup tie before he was replaced by Xavier Amaechi.
By that time, Argyle had drawn level at 2-2 after goals from Brendan Wiredu and Oseni, with the latter grabbing the Pilgrims' decisive third goal in the 79th minute.
Finn, who is understood to be on the radar of Premier League club Nottingham Forest among others, earned praise from Cleverley after how he played against QPR.
"Outstanding," said Cleverley. "I think it has got to be everyone's job to keep the expectations of Tegan to a sensible level. He's a fantastic young prospect, he has got outstanding potential, he was brilliant tonight. We shouldn't be expecting him to play and score, and have a huge impact on every game.
