Don't paint crosses on roundabouts: Council

COUNCIL chiefs have reminded locals to not paint flags or attach flags on public property without permission, however patriotic or nationalistic the intent.

The Plymouth City Council warning comes after recent reports across the UK which has seen St George’s crosses painted onto white miniroundabouts - and then council staff filmed scrubbing them off again, with the resultant accusations from nationalists that these councils evidently hate their own country.

However, those with longer memories will recall that this has been an occasional issue in previous years not just in Plymouth, but across the country, with councils deciding that any markings placed on the highway could pose a safety risk.
