BOMB disposal experts who worked for two days and nights to keep Plymouth safe have spoken of their "complex and challenging" operation.

As remarkable new pictures shared with The Herald show, a large hole had to be dug out at the building site in Martin Street after the World War II device was found last Wednesday, January 14.

A 100m cordon was later expanded to a 400m 'line of sight' cordon after the ordnance was inspected and considered a genuine threat. The German SC50 bomb discovery resulted in around 800 residents being forced to leave their homes late at night on Thursday, and the bomb was finally moved in the early hours of Friday.
