City raises a glass to 'vivacious Suzi'

EX-LANDLADY A 'STAR OF LOCAL PUB SCENE'

PLYMOUTH has raised a glass to a "unique lady" who was a stalwart and star of the city's pub scene and loved for her vibrant personality and unforgettable laugh.

Suzi Mooney (nee Doyle) died recently and her family and dozens of friends toasted her extraordinary life at an event at the hostelry she helped to found: Kitty O'Hanlons.

Suzi and her husband Tom Mooney established the city centre's Irish bar in the 1990s and saw it become an instant hit.

The couple later sold up and moved to the Spanish Island of Lanzarote, where they ran two other successful bars.

They returned to Plymouth a few years ago and after Suzi sadly died following illness it was decided there really was only one place to stage a celebration of her life.

Family, including her sister Janice Powell and brother Peter Lee and son, travelled from as far as Australia to say farewell to a woman who was revered throughout the city.
