Chef slashes prices to 'help the community'

A PLYMOUTH restaurant run by one of the city’s youngest chefs is slashing its prices to “help the community”.

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

The Kurdistan Restaurant, in Cornwall Street, only opened in November 2024, run by 23-year-old Hevi Rahman, but is already bringing down the price of dishes on its menu as the cost-of-living crisis continues to grip Plymouth diners.

Mr Rahman said: “At the start it was really good, but now everywhere is struggling with the cost-of-living, and business rates are high, the price of produce is high. We aren't looking for a big profit, but we do want to help the community so we have brought down our prices. Dishes that were £12.50 are now £11.

"It's about giving. I have done work for Barnardo's (Children's Charity), with care leavers, and can see the gap between people that can afford to go out for a meal and those that can’t.”

The Kurdistan Restaurant bills itself as an authentic Kurdish restaurant which aims to bring a taste of the Middle East to the city centre. Mr Rahman said: “Every dish tells a story of tradition and taste.”
