Blain and Ellis are too good for Whetton and Johnson

IN Ladies B, Sarah Blain and Pam Ellis edged a close game against Julia Whetton and sub Sandy Johnson.

After making a strong start and taking the first set 6-2 with some great passing shots, Sarah and Pam were 5-2 up in the second before Julia Whetton and sub Sandy Johnson pulled it back to 6-4.

The third set was just as tight and was level at 4-4 before Sarah and Pam powered through to take it 6-4.

Caroline Abernethy and Angela Wright took the first set on a tie break only for Sarah Blain and Pam Ellis to find their groove and fight back to win 5-6, 6-1, 6-0.

Elizabeth Shaw and Carla Price were too strong for Libby Allman and Debbie Theophilius winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Liz Shaw and Carla Price completed a fine week by then beating Oonagh Glancy and Nichola Harmer 6-3, 6-3, 6-2.

The top of Ladies A saw Toni Lloyd and Sue Gale beaten by the Woock sisters, Megan and Annie. Megan and Annie started strongly and took the first set only for Sue and Toni to take the second on a tiebreak. Sue was serving at 4-4 in the third but couldn't keep serve which allowed Megan and Annie to see out the set and win 6-3, 5-6, 6-4.

Every inch of the court was used between Helen Wright and Suzanne Sykes who beat Alison Miles and Lynn Helliwell 6-3, 6-4, 4-6 and Helen Wright and Suzanne Sykes also played the Woock sisters, but were beaten 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
