Being incompetent and getting away with it

I READ with a wry smile Andrew Milroy's letter, "Political turmoil is the reality of Reform" on May 16th.

- Graham Skelton, Chris Cope

I thought I would cast my mind back the last 55 years that I have been politically aware and think of all the 'political stability' the great British public have endured!

We have had red - blue, red - blue, even a hint of yellow... the parties are all the same.

From economic strife and strikes of a winter of discontent to riots, recessions, the de-industrialisation of this great nation and selling off of the 'family silver.

We were told things could only get better, which led to us getting dragged into a war to bail out the Americans, an open border policy which continues today and then economic meltdown. That led to austerity and more turmoil.

Then the great British public had the temerity to vote to leave the EU, our politicians didn't like that bit of democracy so dragged their feet and we ended up with a botched Brexit.

Then on to the pandemic and more billions of taxpayers money thrown around like confetti. More economic woes, strikes and riots followed, so it's seems we've gone full circle!

What other job, which pays handsomely and with expenses, can you be totally incompetent and get away with it?

And if you are really useless, you get rewarded with a peerage, with expenses, and a seat in the House of Lords.

The fact is, our political system is rotten to the core and is in need of serious reform.
