'THERE'S NOT ENOUGH CUSTOM IN TOWN COMPARED TO OUTGOINGS'
Paige Lyon said the costs of the Old Town St branch of Mila's Bakery are too onerous to carry on
(PENNY CROSS)
A PLYMOUTH city centre cafe branded “the best in the world” by fans is to close after three years having suffered thefts, vandalism and even people urinating on its seats.
The Mila's Bakery outlet in Old Town Street will shut at the end of this week with owner Paige Brown telling The Herald things hadn't worked out in the city centre.
But she stressed that the original Mila's Bakery shop, in Plympton’s Ridgeway, would be staying open and the business' retail vans would still be operating.
She said: “There's not enough custom in town compared to the amount of outgoings, and we want to focus on our Plympton shop and the retail vans. We gave it our best.”
The family-run business - known for its brownies, blondies, cookie bars, cheesecakes, sponge cakes and more - was set up by Paige and her husband Dan and named after their dog Mila in 2019, with the Old Town Street branch opening in late 2022.
