CAMPBELL MAKES HISTORY ON A NIGHT ARGYLE’S KIDS PROSPER
> Tegan Finn celebrates the first of his two goals for Plymouth Argyle
TOM Cleverley called it ‘a night for the academy’ as Seb Campbell became Plymouth Argyle’s youngest ever goalscorer in a 6-2 Vertu Trophy win against Tottenham Hotspur under-21s at Home Park.
Attacking midfielder Campbell, aged 16 years and 279 days, beat the previous record which had been held by Darren Bastow since 1998 by 37 days. Seventeen-year-old Tegan Finn also grabbed his first two Argyle goals at senior level in the convincing Southern Section Group B victory.
Mathias Ross, Bim Pepple and Owen Oseni were also on target for the Pilgrims as they clinched a place in the knockout stages of the Vertu Trophy with one more group game still to play, but it was man-of-the-match Finn and Campbell who made the headlines.
Finn played the whole match as he enhanced his claims for an England under-18s call-up while first-year apprentice Campbell made his Argyle debut as a halftime substitute for Law McCabe, the 19-year-old loan signing from Middlesbrough.
Cleverley said: “It’s the night of the academy - Tegan Finn scoring his first two goals and Seb Campbell making his debut at 16 years-old and becoming the youngest ever goalscorer for Argyle.
