After more than a decade focussing on his stage work, Poirot star Sir David Suchet tells RACHAEL DAVIES why 'Hitchcockian' thriller The Au Pair lured him back to TV
POIROT’S David Suchet and Death in Paradise and Not Going Out star Sally Bretton head the cast of four-part thriller, The Au Pair.
It follows Zoe (Bretton), who appears to have it all a successful business, a happy marriage, two beautiful stepchildren and a stunning house.
However, the pressure of juggling it all is taking its toll, and when an incident puts her stepson Noah and dad George (Suchet) at risk, her husband Chris (Vera's Kenny Doughty) suggests that maybe it’s time to hire an au pair.
They give the job to Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski), who's very capable but whose presence disturbs the family’s dynamics.
Is Zoe just struggling to get used to sharing her home, or does Sandrine have a hidden agenda?Ahead of the series landing on Channel 5 and showing over four consecutive nights, Sir David, 78, tells us more about what's in store in the Au Pair.
Tell us about your character, George. Lovely George!
Yes, lovely George. That's what everybody thinks...
Well, George is separated from his wife for reasons that you find out during the programme, and he's living with his daughter Zoe.
He is diabetic, she takes care of him and gives him his injections. He's found a new life with his lovely daughter and his son-in-law and step-grandchildren...
It's a very close relationship, and she’s recently had a miscarriage and wants to have another [baby], and as her gynaecologist father, I advise her it could be very dangerous...
