1st phase of Armada Way revamp 'on target'

THE first phase of the ambitious £30m redevelopment of Plymouth's Armada Way is expected to be complete by this summer.

Businesses have been told that Zone 1, north of Mayflower Street, will provide a "welcoming and attractive gateway into the city centre" this year.

The area, outside the Copthorne Hotel and Armada Centre, will include the restored fountain and a new performance space with amphitheatre-style built-in seating.

In an update to businesses, the Plymouth City Centre Company (PCCC) said: "This will give us the opportunity to work with arts and culture organisations to stage music, theatre and other activities which will attract more residents and visitors to the city centre."

The works will mean the partial closure of Mayflower Street to traffic for about eight weeks from February 10.

The PCCC said: "This is to enable contractors to install deep-level drainage connections and services for utilities."
