Thomas the tank engine steams back at 80 with unseen episode

An unseen version of the original pilot episode of the animated children's steam train cartoon Thomas & Friends has been released.
The footage, narrated by Ringo Starr of the Beatles, from Down The Mine is available to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the British franchise, which follows the adventures of Thomas the tank engine and his friends.
The franchise began as a book series written by Wilbert Awdry and first published in 1945. He based the first stories on a toy railway engine owned by his son, Christopher. It was adapted into a TV show in 1984, becoming a global success for many generations of young children.
