Promising rise in curlews in Orkney after years of decline

Orkney's curlew population is on the rise after an effort to reduce the numbers of an invasive predator, according to a report.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) said today that the species' population has grown, amid an initiative to reduce the number of stoats living on the isles.
Stoats are small, carnivorous mammals that were first recorded in Orkney in 2010.
A previous survey, recorded from 2017 to 2019, had revealed that the number of curlews in Orkney had declined by more than 50% compared with 2006 to 2010.
