Mortgage deals drop under 4% amid forecasts of price war on loan rates
February 12, 2025
|The Guardian
The first mortgages priced at under 4% for months are going on sale this week, delivering a much-needed boost to first-time buyers and homeowners worried about refinancing their loan.
Tomorrow, Santander will start offering fixed-rate deals at 3.99% lasting for two and five years. However, eligible borrowers will need a 40% deposit or a sizeable amount of equity in order to access the deals.
David Morris, the head of homes at Santander, said the new products, as well as cuts to the rates on its existing range of loans, would "make a difference to customers across every stage of the home-buying journey".
