Internet blackout puts even more lives at risk

An internet blackout in Iran means civilians are enduring the US-Israel bombardment in the dark - cut off from information about where strikes have happened and where new bombings are about to occur.
With state media broadcasting limited information about airstrikes, and evacuation orders from the attacking countries invisible to most civilians, the shutdown risks worsening the human toll, rights groups say.
The Guardian was able to speak to a small number of Iranians who could briefly go online via VPNs or Starlink satellite terminals.
"Information barely gets through," said Ali*, in Tehran. "If there's no internet we know absolutely nothing. Not about other cities, not even about what's happening a few streets away."
