Town's number of takeaways spark concern

CONCERNS have been raised around the number of takeaways in Hartlepool - with council and health chiefs urging families to look towards home cooking as an alternative.

Cllr Sue Little called for more steps to be taken to help prevent new takeaways opening in the town after voicing worries over the number of premises already in place.

Speaking at the latest meeting of Hartlepool Health and Wellbeing Board, the Seaton ward representative raised concerns over how “easy” it is for young people to access unhealthy food from such sites.

One of her suggestions was for all applications for new hot food takeaways to go before the council’s planning committee to be discussed by councillors.
