The answer to Gen Z's prayers?

I LOVE an old church. Perhaps it’s the history contained within those thick walls.

Whether grand cathedrals or tiny chapels, these buildings are the burial places of princes and paupers and have seen generations of the pious - all with their own stories to tell - come through the doors.

Or maybe it's the adornments inside - the paintings and statues and pews the colour of over-brewed tea. Or is it the feeling I always get standing in these places that attracts me? The stillness underpinned with a reassuring whiff of furniture polish and fading altar flowers.

Whatever the attraction, I can’t resist popping inside a church - it’s driven the kids and my other half crazy over the years. Whether on holiday, on a day out or just as I pass, the compulsion to go in and admire the stained glass and light a candle is overwhelming.
