Proud dad's snap inspired TV and film dynasty

On June 15, 1890, Ivy Lillian Close was born in Stockton-on-Tees.

Ivy's father, Jack, was a jeweller and keen amateur photographer. His decision to enter a photo of his teenage daughter into a Daily Mirror competition didn't just change Ivy's life in ways she could never have imagined; it was also the start of a British TV and film dynasty.
The 1908 newspaper was trying to find the 'World's Most Beautiful Woman.'
Like many a proud Teesside dad, Jack Close believed the bonniest lasses were from Teesside.
From over a thousand entries, Ivy was shortlisted and had to prove she was more than just a pretty face to win the title. She was also invited to sit for a professional portrait by the society photographer Stuart Elwin 'Senny' Neame.
