BLAZE WAS CAUSED BY DISPOSABLE BARBECUE LEFT IN BIN
LITTER pickers have been left 'gutted' after equipment was destroyed in a blaze believed to have been caused by a disposable barbecue.
The fire at the unit in St Germain’s Lane, Marske, broke out in the early hours of Friday morning, destroying a cabinet and the cleanup equipment inside. Firefighters were called to the scene and put out the blaze, which appears to have been accidental after an insufficiently cooled disposable barbecue was placed into the waste bin.
The fire-ravaged equipment used by volunteer group Marske Litter Action included several reacher/grabbers, bin bag hoops, bin bags, a dustpan and brush, and various other items.
