TRIBUTES TO 'REDCAR CELEBRITY' AND FORMER GAZETTE SELLER WHO DIED SUDDENLY AT AGE 66

- By SUE KIRBY

'Keep dancing Disco Dennis'

TRIBUTES have been pouring in for former Gazette street seller and Redcar 'legend' Dennis Jenkins, who has died suddenly at the age of 66.

Dennis was a popular character in the town and earned the name 'Disco Dennis' for his love of dancing in the 70s and 80s.

His cousin, Laura Hall, said sadly Dennis died on November 19 of respiratory failure, having gone to sleep and not woken up at Sand Banks Care Centre in Redcar where he was living.

The 64-year-old, who now lives in Berkshire, said she has always been close to Dennis as the pair lived next door to each other growing up.

She said his death came as a huge shock, but she is pleased he died in his own bed surrounded by his own things.

Laura said she has been stunned by the outpouring of grief and the tributes paid to Dennis.
