'It's incredibly useful for those on a tight budget'

AS families are tightening their purse strings, a new community grocery store in South Bank is already proving vital to Teesside households.

Earlier this month, South Bank Community Grocery opened in Normanby Road offering members the chance to buy affordable food - and save £20 per shop.

Anne Young, manager at the new store, says the site has been buzzing with activity since opening on April 8.

The 58-year-old said: “We set a remarkable record for our opening day sales, surpassing the numbers achieved by our 28 other locations across the country. The demand was so high that we quickly ran out of products.”

The store is the ninth of its kind to open in the North East to support families and is open Tuesday to Friday every week. It offers a range of items recycled from other supermarkets, contributing to sustainability efforts.
