'Heartbreak' as Whitby shop famed for its lucky ducks to close

A seaside shop famous for its “lucky ducks" is to close for good after 68 years.

Whitby Glass on Sandgate, which was established in the late 1950s by Peter Rantell, has over the years become one of the town's most popular gift and glasswear shops.

And perhaps most popular of all the items sold are the Whitby Lucky Ducks - small, hand-made glass ducks in transparent colours that have found homes across the world.

Whitby Glass was begun by a small group of artists and craftspeople working in glass.
