TRIBUTES TO RESPECTED COUNCIL OFFICER

TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of a long-serving senior Middlesbrough Council officer.

Terry Ratcliffe, who has died at the aged of 87, was Borough Engineer for Middlesbrough from 1972 until the abolition of Cleveland County Council in 1996.

A key player in a "golden age" for Middlesbrough, Terry was part of the team responsible for new developments including Coulby Newham and Hemlington, and the creation of new retail spaces in the town, as well as helping to reduce pollution in the River Tees.
