Dad and son avoid jail after attacking man
September 18, 2025
|The Gazette
A STEPDAD and his son who both attacked an innocent man have avoided jail.
Leon Finegan, who was just 15 at the time, and stepdad Craig Porteous, 38, knocked their victim over, four years ago on a Redcar street. They kicked and punched the man as he lay on the ground.
Teesside Crown Court heard that on July 25, 2021, the victim and his wife had spent the evening in the pub. When they got home, the man took his dog out for a walk. As he walked past Porteous and Finegan’s home, there was an incident and the victim was attacked by other men.
The victim went home and told his wife what had happened. The couple then went back out later that night - passing by the same street, they said “to look for their lost kitten”.
Finegan, 20, attacked the man and Porteous joined in, the court heard.
