Councillor receives a caution

THE court case of a former town councillor accused of assaulting the council’s former clerk has finally ended with a caution.

Bob Wegg, 77, was given a caution after several weeks of delays, where it emerged that key details of the assault charge had been wrong for more than a year.

He was a member of Yarm Town Council when he was accused of assaulting Juliet Johnson at Challoner House in Yarm on July 30 last year.

Ms Johnson was the council clerk at the time, but both have since resigned their positions on the council. Mr Wegg, of The Spital, Yarm, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault by beating.
