Neighbours on Hardale Grove described the death of the girl - who was just three months old - as “absolutely devastating” and “horrendous”
Emergency services were called to the scene on Thursday afternoon and the little girl was found to have died.
Yesterday, flowers were laid outside a home on the street.
One card read “Angel of God” while a Winnie the Pooh bear was also laid bedside the floral tributes. Meanwhile, forensic teams were seen carrying out investigations at the property.
An investigation into the tragedy is ongoing and at this stage, police said they are treating her death as a result of a dog bite.
Hardale Grove is a cul de sac which runs off Staithes Road.
The houses are semi detached with several families with young children living on the street.
One resident said a woman was heard screaming on the street saying, “get the baby” or “help the baby”.
She said she saw police and ambulances outside the house, and heard a shot.
