Brief illness benched loan star Nypan

ROB Edwards revealed that illness during the week was behind Manchester City loan star Sverre Nypan not starting at Southampton, with Morgan Whittaker being restored to the Middlesbrough line-up.

Nypan, pictured below, had enjoyed his first start for Boro last Friday evening, helping his side beat West Brom 2-1 as his fledgling reputation was further enhanced.

But his switch to the bench at St Mary's ended up being Edwards' only change for Saturday's game.

Though far from at their best on the day, Boro managed to come away from Southampton with a hard-earned away point and Edwards talked up Whittaker afterwards, with the forward having come under much scrutiny of late.
