Why MGI All-Stars is a chance Fuschia Ravena couldn't miss

Growing up there in a farm with a soft spot for animals, she said it’s an experience she cannot easily shrug off, as her family and relatives were there when the 6.9-magnitude quake hit.

“It made me realize that time is really short, and you'll never know what lies ahead, so make sure to live your life full of love,” Ravena told The FREEMAN.

The beauty queen and entrepreneur lives a life full of love, knowing that her family accepts her identity as a transgender — although Ravena acknowledges that this is not the same reality for many in the trans community. She counts her late mother as one of her biggest supporters, having told The FREEMAN in 2022 that her mother would take her to the salon to have her hair and nails done as her elder brothers weren’t quite accepting of her at first.

“Coming out is never easy, but you have to be patient with yourself and your family,” she advised. “Coming out is a personal process that takes time. You can seek support from trusted friends, communities, or counselors. You must also prioritize your safety and well-being because your identity is valid, regardless of what other people think.”

The trans community is not a monolith, as individuals have different reasons for transitioning, or for not doing so. For some, the cost of gender-affirming care is too high, which was the case for Ravena when she struggled to afford hormone replacement therapy. Others believe they don’t need to go under the knife.
