SFI considers limiting Sinulog participants

The public can expect fewer dancing contingents for the 2026 Sinulog celebration, as the Sinulog Foundation Incorporated (SFI) is considering limiting the number of participants to 35.
-
Aside from this, the SFI will also impose stricter guidelines on floats, according to SFI Executive Director Emer “Jojo” Labella in an interview yesterday, September 2.
Labella said the stricter guidelines on floats will be imposed to avoid the same crowd gridlock that occurred during this year’s Sinulog, caused by some floats exceeding the height requirement.
As of yesterday, Labella said several contingents from Cebu City, Cebu Province, Luzon, and Mindanao have already expressed their intent to join. However, he said that as early as April, they had already distributed several invitations to give participants ample time to prepare and to accommodate the timely release of subsidies.
“In fact, last year gi-limit gyud unta ni nato, 15 out of town, 10 dakbayan, and 10 lalawigan, 35 in total ka contingents,” Labella explained.
Labella, however, said that the final number will still depend on the decision of the festival’s executive committee.
