RDRRMC-7 holds meeting, highlights DOST's Project SIGNAL

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Committee (DPMC) of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-7 recently held its meeting, highlighting the presentation Project SIGNAL by DOST Region VI.

Project SIGNAL is a real-time, geo-referenced incident reporting platform that enables faster and more coordinated emergency response.

This, as the Cebu Provincial Government launched yesterday its first-ever sea ambulance aimed at fast tracking the delivery of basic services particularly in island towns.

The committee also endorsed several initiatives, including resolutions supporting ANDAM Central Visayas, which is the DRRM component of the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program; the Drone Central Visayas Roadmap; and the DRRM Research and Development Agenda.

RDRRMC-7 chairperson and Department of Science and Technology-7 (DOST-7) Director Dr. Tristan L. Abando emphasized the critical role of these science-led initiatives in disaster prevention and mitigation, especially in light of the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Cebu on September 30, 2025.
