P20/kilo rice program rolls out in Mandaue

Indigent residents of Mandaue City can now purchase rice for as low as P20 per kilo under the “Benteng Bigas Meron Na!” program, which officially rolled out yesterday, March 12, 2026, at the Mandaue City Public Market.

Residents in Mandaue City began flocking to the stall of Kadiwa ng Pangulo stall on the ground floor of the Public Market to avail the P20 per kilo rice under the "Benteng Bigas Meron Na!" program, which officially rolled out yesterday.

Under the pilot implementation, qualified beneficiaries may purchase up to 10 kilos of rice per transaction.

Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) Senior Administrative Assistant Patrick Michael Bariquit told reporters in an interview that the public market is the first in Cebu where rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) is being sold under the initiative.

Bariquit said the program can accommodate up to 250 beneficiaries daily and operates from Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
