Iran at a crossroad again?

The last time we used this title for an editorial it was to ponder whether social changes would be carried out in Iran following massive protests over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, the woman who was arrested and suspected murdered in September 2022 for wearing her headscarf the wrong way.

We asked that question because it seemed that the protests were headed toward the Islamic Republic making concessions to calm people down. However, the people's outrage eventually fizzled out before anything of note could be achieved.

But Iranians are up in protest again, this time over their dire economic conditions. Inflation has jacked up the prices of basic commodities, the value of their money has dropped dramatically, and many shops have shut their doors to protest unbearable conditions.
