|The Freeman
A fire broke out in Sitio Mayflower, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City on Sunday dawn, December 7, leaving at least 27 families displaced and one injured — marking the ninth blaze in the area since the beginning of this year.
The Cebu City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said it struck a residential area around 1:04 a.m. It was immediately raised to its first alarm by 1:10 a.m., second at 1:19 a.m., and later escalated to its third alarm status around 1:26 a.m.
After more than an hour of firefighting efforts, authorities declared the fire under control at 1:55 a.m. and fully extinguished by 2:13 a.m. over the efforts of the quick response of fire brigades from neighboring barangays in Cebu City as well as Mandaue City.
Reportedly, the fire engulfed about 120 square meters, destroying at least 17 houses, 15 of which were totally burned and two were partially damaged.
As a result, a total of 117 individuals from 17 families were left homeless. While no fatalities were reported, one unidentified individual was said to have been injured.
Senior Fire Officer III Wendell Villanueva confirmed that the fire was the ninth recorded incident in Barangay Duljo-Fatima since the start of 2025.
