December 17, 2025
|The Freeman
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved, with modifications, a proposal by the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines to levy additional market transaction fees to fund a new electricity trading system from 2025 through 2028.
Under the ruling, IEMOP will be allowed to charge power generators registered with the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) an added fee starting at P0.00265 per kilowatt-hour for 2025.
The amount will be collected over 12 months beginning January 2026. The regulator also set lower rates for subsequent years, fixing the fees at P0.00123 per kWh in 2026, P0.00106 per kWh in 2027 and P0.00081 per kWh in 2028.
